10 Things to Do While Renting a Car

  1. Check the Car Thoroughly Before Driving Off: Look for any existing dents, scratches, or damages and report them immediately to avoid being blamed later.

  2. Understand the Rental Agreement: Read the terms carefully — including mileage limits, fuel policy, insurance coverage, and return time.

  3. Take Photos or Videos of the Car: Document the car’s condition with timestamped photos or videos before and after your rental period.

  4. Inspect the Tires and Lights: Make sure tires are inflated properly and all lights (headlights, brake lights, turn signals) are working.

  5. Know the Insurance Options: Decide whether to use your own insurance, credit card coverage, or purchase insurance from the rental company.

  6. Familiarize Yourself With the Car: Adjust mirrors, seats, and controls before you start driving to ensure comfort and safety.

10 Tips for Negotiating Rent with Your Landlord (With Examples)

  1. Do Your Homework Research the local rental market so you know what similar places cost. Example: “I’ve noticed that similar apartments in this area are renting for $50 less per month. Can we discuss adjusting the rent?”

  2. Highlight Your Reliability Show you’re a responsible tenant who pays rent on time and takes care of the property. Example: “I’ve always paid rent on time and kept the apartment in great shape. Would you consider a rent reduction to keep me as a tenant?”

  3. Offer a Longer Lease Landlords like stability; offer to sign a longer lease in exchange for lower rent. Example: “If I sign a 12-month lease instead of 6 months, could you reduce the monthly rent?”

  4. Point Out Needed Repairs or Maintenance If the property needs fixing, use it as a negotiation point. Example: “The heating system isn’t working well, and I’d need to cover those costs. Could we discuss lowering the rent?”

  5. Suggest Paying Several Months Upfront Offering upfront payment can…

Renting vs Owning a House: What’s Best for You?

Deciding whether to rent or buy a house is one of the biggest financial and lifestyle choices many people face. Both have their pros and cons, and the best option depends on your personal situation, goals, and priorities. Here’s a quick breakdown to help you understand the differences:

Renting a House

Pros:

  • Flexibility: Easy to move when your lease ends — great if you expect job changes or want to try different neighborhoods.

  • Lower upfront costs: Usually just a security deposit and first month’s rent, no huge down payment.

  • Less responsibility: Repairs and maintenance are typically handled by the landlord.

Why Do People Rent People in Japan?

Hey everyone! I recently came across something pretty fascinating—did you know that in Japan, you can actually rent people? It sounds weird at first, but there are some interesting reasons behind this trend!

In Japan, services where you can rent someone for companionship, event attendance, or even just to hang out have become quite popular. Here’s why:

  1. Social Pressure & Loneliness — Japan has a strong culture of politeness and social harmony, but many people feel isolated or pressured to have the “perfect” social life. Renting someone as a friend or partner for events helps ease loneliness or awkward social situations.

  2. Professional Companions — Some businesses rent “actors” who can play roles like family members, friends, or coworkers to help people in complicated social situations — like convincing family or filling in for guests.

  3. Avoiding Awkwardness — For shy or introverted people, or those new in town, renting a friendly face can make…

Why Renting a 1BHK in Kochi Works Perfectly for Me (and My Little Family)

Renting a 1BHK apartment in Kochi has been such a blessing for me—and honestly, it’s been the perfect setup for my little family, which includes my 11-month-old daughter and our adorable cat.

1. Cozy Space for a Small Family

With just the three of us, a 1BHK feels just right. It’s cozy, warm, and easy to manage—especially with a baby crawling around and a curious cat following her everywhere! I can keep an eye on both of them without feeling like I’m running from room to room.

2. Easy to Clean & Maintain

Let’s be real—life with a baby and a pet means things get messy fast. Having a smaller space makes cleaning up so much easier and less stressful. I can tidy up in minutes, which is a lifesaver during nap times.

3. Budget-Friendly Comfort

Why I Don’t Think Fitness Equipment Rental Is Worth It (Especially for Small Homes)

I’ve seen a lot of buzz lately around renting fitness equipment like ellipticals, treadmills, and exercise bikes. While it sounds convenient on the surface, I personally don’t think it’s a good idea—especially if you live in a small home like I do.

First of all, space is a real issue. These machines are bulky and take up a lot of room. Moving them in and out is a hassle, and if your home doesn’t have a dedicated corner for them, they just become an obstacle in your living space. Not to mention, getting something like an elliptical up and down the stairs can be a nightmare.

Then there's the cost. I looked into renting an elliptical and a cycling machine recently—both were priced between ₹1,500 to ₹2,000 per month. That’s the same (or even more) than a full gym membership! For ₹1,500 a month at my local gym, I get…
